chelleyrubio:

I’ve noticed that for most Disney villains, the most common colors are red, purple, and black. Hell yeah.

Name: Maleficent

Real Name: Marlisa (Last name is not known)

Face Claim: Demi Moore

Species: Magic-born. She is also known as a fairy, but never refers to herself as such since she does not wish to be associated with the likes of the Three Good Fairies.

Occupation: Sorceress; abilities focused on dark magic

Age: 43

Birthplace: Germany (Exact location is not known)

Parentage: They had abandoned the girl when she was very young. Nothing is known about their current whereabouts, nor does Maleficent wish to seek them out. If she ever found them, she would be sure to slaughter them.

Childhood: At the age of five, the young Marlisa was taken into the German kingdom by the old king Adalric after she found just outside the castle doors, abandoned. Quickly, the kingdom learned of her magical abilities. She was to stay with the castle help, but they were repulsed by her green skin. Marlisa was given her own quarters in one of the towers. Stefan, the young prince who was fourteen at the time, visited the girl regularly. The two of them soon developed a strong bond, much like siblings. Playing in the garden was their favourite past time and Stefan referred to Marlisa as his ‘kleine Blume’ (little flower).

When Stefan reached age sixteen, he was crowned the new king of Germany and his father stepped down. During the celebration dinner, Stefan announced that Marlisa would serve as the new apprentice to the kingdom’s sorcerer, Detlev. Her work began immediately. Detlev taught her very basic levitation spells and to complex transformation ones. He taught her also how to control the elements, in small doses. Marlisa was indeed talented and learned quickly from her master. With her work and Stefan ruling over the kingdom, their time together became limited. Once a month, they would meet in the garden and share stories.

The Love Interest: After a meeting with Stefan on Marlisa’s thirteenth birthday, the girl overhead him speaking with the Three Good Fairies, who assisted in the magic of the kingdom. They were cautious of young Marlisa, believing her magic was far more powerful than they had imagined. The Fairies warned Stefan not to allow her to continue learning from Detlev. Stefan would hear of no such thing, he trusted the girl with his life and ignored the Fairies pleas.

Marlisa was heart-broken that the Fairies would think such a thing of her. She had wandered among the courtyard of the castle, lost in her thoughts. A group of guards cornered the young woman and pushed her away from sight behind the stables. They ridiculed her and shouted slander, calling her a ‘witch’ and worse. One of the guards attempted to rape Marlisa, while the rest of them laughed. A boy, who worked in the castle’s kitchen, had overheard the guards and went to see what was going on. Horrified at the actions, the boy fought through them, grabbed Marlisa and pulled her out of their grasp before they could harm her. Once they were far enough away, the boy, who was fifteen years old, made sure the girl was alright. The boy’s name was Till. And a friendship was born between the two. For three years, Marlisa and Till would sneak out to meet each other; to talk, to laugh and to kiss. They became young lovers. Till wanted to marry Marlisa, to take her away from this kingdom so they could start a life together. Marlisa wanted this as well, but she could never leave Detlev or her work. And she could never leave Stefan.

One night, Till was leaving the kitchen and was cut off by the same guard from three years ago. The man was drunk and made crude remarks to Till for being with the ‘witch’. Till tried to ignore him, but the guard would have none of that. He shoved the young man against the wall and stabbed his sword into his gut. Marlisa had gone out to meet Till when she saw the murder, but she had arrived too late. Till was dead. The young sorceress was furious and her magic flared up. She sent down a bolt of lightning to hit the guard. Unfortunately, it did not kill him, but injured him greatly. And the secret of Till’s death remained between the guard and Marlisa. Only a few months later, in the dead of winter, Detlev passed away in his sleep. And Marlisa’s heart darkened even more. She cut herself off from the kingdom and would not see anyone for two months. Marlisa closed off her heart, believing love only meant to bring death.

Her Job and Her Descent: In the spring, when Marlisa was still sixteen years old, Stefan dubbed her to be the head sorceress for the kingdom. By doing this, he had hoped this would pull her out of the depression she was in. Marlisa had emerged from her state, calm and collected and accepted the job with grace. With the new occupation, came a new name. Marlisa changed her name to Maleficent, it seemed much more fitting. The Three Good Fairies were furious and knew something horrible would happen from this, but Stefan would not hear it. The sorceress had her own study and her interests became focused on dark, powerful magic. Detlev had mentioned it to her in the past. He told her how powerful it could be, but there would always be a heavy price to pay. And yet, she continued her search.

For two years, Maleficent studied nothing but the dark arts, researching and learning ancient spells. The sorceress taught herself how to change form drastically, to possess the mind, control and use the elements, and various other spells. During this time, a young raven had flown into her window. Maleficent took him in to keep as a pet, she would train him and use the creature as she saw fit. He was named Diablo. Maleficent did odd jobs around the kingdom to keep suspicions away from her secret studies.

Stefan had become stressed during this time. Germany was at war with France and this had completely taken up his time. In hopes to be praised, Maleficent, now eighteen years old, came to Stefan with a suggestion. The young sorceress took him aside and told him of her studies and what potential it had. Stefan was horrified and told her he would never use dark magic to win a war. The king demanded that Maleficent ceased her studies at once; he did not want dark magic used in his kingdom. Although Maleficent’s features had remained calm, she was furious for such a demand. The secrets continued. In the dark hours of the night, Maleficent would take control the minds of various peasants/servants and lead them to her quarters. There she would experiment on them, testing the spells that she had spent so many years learning. Most were successful, but all of her victims had died during the process. She did not care, but disposed of the bodies immediately, usually by burning them. This occurred for almost seven years and no one suspected her. Maleficent kept her kidnappings scattered and irregular.  Only Stefan had his suspicions, but he did not want to acknowledge them for fear of the truth. Even then, he still loved her like a sister.

The Banishment: Finally, the king confronted his oldest friend. Stefan was thirty-four years old, while Maleficent was twenty-five, at the time. As expected, Maleficent denied such a claim. Stefan has his guards search her quarters while she is away. In a secret room, they find where she had carried out her experiments and the charred body of her latest subject. The king’s council came together and demanded that Stefan execute her for such action. Stefan could not bear to do it, so he convinced them to allow banishment instead. When Maleficent returned, Stefan came to her and announced her banishment to the Forbidden Mountain. The sorceress was infuriated, but she took her leave, with cold, hatred in her yellow eyes.

Maleficent took her place at the Forbidden Mountain, where the devilish imps residing. At her arrival, they cowered at her display of power. Never had they seen such wickedness. For a year, the sorceress’ fury grew in her black heart. Word quickly reached her of a daughter born to King Stefan and Queen Leah. France and Germany had settled their disputes and the French king’s son was to marry the German king’s daughter. Maleficent had firmly believed Stefan would forgive her and realize the mistake he had made. And so the sorceress waited for an invitation to the child’s christening as an act of forgiveness. No invitation ever came.

The Consequences: A curse was placed upon the child for Stefan’s foolishness. Maleficent no longer cared that he hated her. She would have revenge for her banishment. Sixteen years later, when Maleficent was fourty-two years old, she almost succeeded in destroying the child. Her plans were thwarted by Prince Phillip and the Three Good Fairies. The Sword of Truth was thrust into her chest and her dragon body had toppled over the cliff. Maleficent had enough strength to disappear from the scene, leaving Phillip and the Fairies to believe she had perished.

After the Fight: Maleficent hid herself away for a year traveling through Germany and attempting to heal the wound the Sword of Truth had inflicted upon her body. The magic was strong and she had never been able to fully heal the wound. Her travels took her to Agrabah, where she met an old friend. Jafar allowed Maleficent to reside with him while she healed. With their magic combined, they were able to fully close the wound.  Maleficent was unaware a shard of the sword was still embedded in her skin that had created limitation to her power.

Now: Once she had fully healed, Maleficent returned to Germany, back to the Forbidden Mountain. The imps had abandoned the old castle, just as she had expected. Maleficent released Diablo from his stony prison and sent him to spy upon King Stefan’s castle. Her powers were still limited (she has realized she could not turn into a dragon) and she has been trying to discover why. Her revenge shifted to focus on Phillip and Aurora. And now she lies in waiting to inflict her fury upon the young royals.
